Botanical and floral influences are the basis for my work’s inspiration…my heritage–German, Irish and Cajun French, of farm memories and middle-class life in Jackson, MS, in the ‘70s all rolled up, reflects who I am.
I like the smooth surface of clay to be interrupted by texture! It’s fun to “bother” the clay! I carve most of my own stamps and use slip trailing and stamping to produce a whimsical surface. Pieces are made of stoneware clay body using flat slabs to form pots, as well as throwing pieces on the potters wheel from a lump of clay. Colored and natural terra sigillatas, slips, glazes and underglazes are applied at different times throughout the process to add more texture and color. Each piece is one of a kind, and attempts to convey joy and interest for the user.
I’m thankful to have been given the gift of making with my hands, and one that, hopefully, others might enjoy.
